LOVELAND, Colo. – August 22, 2026 – Moffat Glass designs, fabricates and installs custom glass railing systems for homes in Greeley and the surrounding Weld County area, cutting and tempering the panels at its Northern Colorado shop before its own crews set them on site.

Four configurations are available, and the choice usually comes down to the site. Frameless structural railings seat tempered panels in an embedded base shoe, leaving the run clear overhead. Post-and-clamp systems carry panels on stainless or aluminum posts with concealed base clamps, which suit longer exterior runs and locations where wind load favors visible structural support. Standoff railings, also called point-fixed, attach to a fascia or wall with stainless standoffs. Top-rail systems finish the panels with a continuous cap, often the choice where code calls for a rail that can be gripped.

Residential applications include exterior decks, interior stair runs including open-tread staircases, Juliet and full balconies, and pool surrounds. Interior runs are typically specified at 3/8-inch tempered laminated glass. Exterior work moves to 1/2-inch tempered glass, often laminated, to satisfy load and span. Glass meets ANSI Z97.1 Class A or CPSC 16 CFR 1201 Category II safety glazing standards.

Glass railing installation in Greeley is specified to the International Building Code as adopted in Colorado. That code sets a 42-inch minimum guardrail height on open sides of decks, balconies and mezzanines, and 34 inches on open sides of stairs. Pool enclosures require 48 inches or taller, and openings are held tight enough that a 4-inch sphere cannot pass.

“A railing is one of the largest visual interruptions in a room or on a deck, and glass takes that out of the way,” said owner Eric Stern. “The measure is where most of it gets decided. We confirm post locations and clearances on site, cut the panels for that opening, and the crew that installs it is ours.”

Moffat Glass offers finishes in brushed stainless, polished stainless, matte black and oil-rubbed bronze, with base shoes and posts matched across a run. Exterior railings are specified with 316 stainless hardware, which stands up to sun exposure and repeated freeze-thaw cycles along the Front Range. Residential projects use CRL hardware.

The work follows four steps. A technician measures on site, confirming post locations, panel sizing and code clearances. The glass is then cut and tempered at the company shop. Installation is handled by Moffat crews, and a final walkthrough checks panel alignment, hardware torque and sphere clearance before the job closes. Most railing projects install within one to two weeks of an approved measurement.

Custom glass railings in Greeley call for are cut and tempered on the same shop floor as the company’s shower enclosures, mirrors and heavy-glass partitions.
