Thermal and digital vision now available for everyday wildlife watching

New multispectral binoculars by Pulsar Wildlife combine thermal and digital imaging in one device — a capability long confined to research and specialist use.

STRATFORD-UPON-AVON, UNITED KINGDOM, September 7, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Pulsar Wildlife introduces Avilume, a new line of binoculars built around a simple problem: most of what’s out there, you never actually see. Standard optics work only as well as the available light allows — they go dark at dusk, struggle in fog and thick cover, and offer no way to identify a sound you can’t trace to its source. Avilume addresses that by combining a thermal imaging channel with a high-definition digital one in a single pair of binoculars, letting users detect wildlife by heat signature and then confirm exactly what they’re looking at, in full color during the day or in black and white mode at night.

Thermal imaging itself isn’t new — it’s been standard equipment for field researchers, conservation professionals, and search-and-rescue teams for years. What’s been missing is a version built for the far larger number of people who simply enjoy watching birds and wildlife as a hobby, as well as nature photographers and tour guides. That’s the gap Avilume is designed to close.

Avilume is available in two models. The XT50 Pro leads with a 17.5° thermal field of view — the widest in the line — paired with a 1280×1024, 12µm HD thermal sensor, suited to scanning wide, open terrain. The XR50 trades some of that width for a more sensitive 640×480 sensor with a noise-equivalent temperature difference (NETD) of under 18 mK, built for picking out distant or partially hidden animals in difficult conditions like fog, mist, or humidity.

Both models include a picture-in-picture mode that displays the thermal and digital channels at once, electronic image stabilization for a steady view at full zoom, a built-in laser rangefinder accurate to 1,500 meters, and a focusable infrared illuminator for close-range detail after dark. Photos and video — with sound — can be captured on any channel and synced instantly to the free Wild Vision companion app. Both devices are designed, manufactured, and built in-house in Europe, and run for up to 8 hours (XT50 Pro) or 10 hours (XR50) on a single charge.
